cruising

Just got back from our cruise!
I tried to take pictures of everything, but I didn't get it all. Here's a sampling.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2008

Pre-cruise

Breakfast

Scrambled eggs with tomato, whole wheat toast with blueberry preserves and pumpkin butter, candied walnuts

Afternoon snacks

Clementine, soup with napa cabbage, candy cane Joe-Joe

First bite of cruise food!

My mom and I were hungry when we got on the ship so we headed over to Sorrento's pizza and got chicken salad rolls.

Dinner

Bread and minestrone soup to start

Mom's scallops with white corn risotto (appetizer), my insalata mista with thousand island

Rosemary lamb shank with garlic roasted potatoes. Mmmm.

Dessert

All 4 of us ordered a different dessert so we could try them all!

Mom: tiramisu, me: chocolate layer cake

Grandma: raspberry panna cotta, Grandpa: warm chocolate cake

Post-dinner munchies

Then my mom and I walked upstairs to check out the buffet in the Windjammer Café ... and we realized they had a ton more desserts. So of course we had to try them too!

Random food from the teen nightclub (chicken samosa and melon), margarita pizza from Sorrento's, "midnight delights" (like mini hors d'oeuvres) that waiters brought around the bars at around 12:20 AM

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 2008

Breakfast

Grapefruit, pineapple, honeydew, scrambled eggs, Swiss bircher muesli with sliced banana (SO good)

Random less-healthy stuff.

Lunch

Lunch buffet!

And of course, lunch desserts. Notice my lame attempt at making my plate healthier with the cauliflower and broccoli.

Afternoon snacks

Orange, croissant and danishes we stole from the morning buffet

Dinner

Bread, oxtail broth and lobster bisque (way too salty)

Mom's escargots, lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate or whatnot

Entrees!
Me: citrus lime salmon, Mom: truffled wild mushroom linguine

Grandma: roasted duck, Grandpa: filet of beef

Dessert

Mom: Grand Marnier soufflé, me: strawberry cheesecake

Grandma: banana-coconut layer cake, Grandpa: vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup (and a ladyfinger)

Post-dinner munchies

More buffet sampling

SUNDAY, JANUARY 6, 2008

Breakfast

Pretty much the same as Saturday. Muesli (it had raisins, sliced almonds and citrus zest) with sliced banana, fruit, pancakes, waffles, and my absolute favorite (okay, maybe tied with the muesli) -- biscuits and gravy. Yum.

Morning snacks

We watched a cooking demonstration and they made this cajun-style shrimp. It was really, really good.
They also made a dill-cured salmon and tiramisu.

Lunch

Random buffet madness.

Afternoon snacks

Really gross-looking leftovers from the four BBQ baby back ribs I had

Dinner

Basil, mozzarella and focaccia tossed salad, corrrrnbread

Appetizers!
Mom's citrus cured salmon, Grandma's wild mushroom in puff pastry

My red pepper hummus, and Mom's smoked salmon pasta (entree)

Indian vegetable curry

Post-dinner munchies

The buffet had some really good crab cakes and brownies.
Oh, and I had a ginormous slice (in the picture, there's half left) of chicken pizza from Sorrento's

MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2008

Breakfast
I forgot my camera, but I had pretty much the same stuff. Muesli, fruit, french toast (sadly, there weren't any more biscuits), a cinnamon roll, and an apple strudel pastry.

Morning snacks

I'm still in the cruise mindset. Seriously. I can't stop eating.
Halls blueberry drop, candy cane Joe-Joe's, chocolate cookie, toffee cookie

Lunch

Back to Grandma's fantastic cooking!
Garlic-marinated pork, napa soup, green peas with pork

Baby bok choy, rice, daikon cake

Afternoon snacks

Pistachios, Fuyu persimmon, napa soup, soy-glazed walnuts

Clementine

Dinner

Chinese comfort food. White rice porridge, green peas sauteed with pork, ban doufu (silken tofu mixed with salt, spices and sesame oil), Chinese veggies

Wilted baby bok choy, soy-glazed walnuts, and pork sung (which I forgot to take a picture of)

Post-dinner munchies

Two persimmons

Clementine, baby carrots
